At Inside Out Renovation, we love the challenge of updating older homes while preserving their original charm. One of our recent projects brought a 1949 home into the modern age without losing its mid-century appeal.

When we started, the home was in its original condition, complete with a kitchen, bathroom, and laundry space that hadn’t been updated since the early 1950s. Our goal was to honor the home’s history while creating a more functional and comfortable space for the homeowners.

One of the major updates involved reimagining the original laundry and furnace room to create a second bathroom—a valuable addition that enhanced the home’s usability. We replaced the old heating system with a modern ductless setup, supplemented by the cozy warmth of a gas fireplace insert.

In the kitchen, we made subtle but impactful changes. Slightly enlarging the space gave it a more open feel, while maintaining its vintage charm. We also added butler cabinets along a hallway, providing much-needed storage in a way that seamlessly blended with the home’s aesthetic.

The exterior of the house was carefully preserved, with the exception of new windows that improve energy efficiency while staying true to the home’s character. The result is a home that feels refreshed and modern while maintaining its original charm.

Projects like this remind us of the importance of balancing the past and present. It’s always a privilege to help homeowners bring new life to beloved spaces. If you’re dreaming of transforming your home, Inside Out Renovation is here to help you make it a reality—while honoring what makes it uniquely yours.
